4% EXMT, 12% EX, 38% VG/EX, 31% VG, 12% GOOD, 3% lesser.  Strong example of Fleer's "Baseball Greats" set, an expansion on the company's 1960 issue.  Featuring retired players from all eras (producing cards of retired players enabled Fleer to make baseball cards without violating Topps' player contracts), the set had a much more colorful design than its predecessor, which helped increase its popularity.  Assembled by a longtime hobbyist with an eye for condition, the set was assembled before the advent of third-party grading.  As a result, centering and miscuts have reduced the technical grade of many of the set's cards.  Of particular note here is the print quality of the collection's more scarce high-number series.  Cards #89-176 are typically more difficult to obtain than the first series, and many of the set's high numbers - despite the same centering and miscutting issues - boast stunning, deep colors, and are among the nicer cards in this group.  The lower number series appears a bit more washed out, with print snow visible on many of the cards, consistent with the issue.  The 1961 Fleer set is an outstanding assembly of many of the greatest players to grade the game, from its birth until the beginning of the postwar era.  A "Who's who" in baseball history.  154 cards total.
