The PC796 Sepia Postcard issue is one of the most visually appealing and widely collected postcard sets featuring baseball players of the period.  Issued in 1910 by an unknown manufacturer, this set mirrors the Novelty Cutlery postcard set and uses many images seen in different baseball card and baseball supplement sets issued during the time.  Graded FR 1.5 by SGC, this card of Hall of Famer Sam Crawford boasts eye appeal far in excess of the assigned grade, the primary condition flaw being two areas of light pencil writing on the reverse, along with the owner's stamp of none other than hobby pioneer Charles "Buck" Barker.  The image quality is strong, with light wear to the corners and edges, the technical grade simply pertaining to what most hobbyists would consider an important benefit of the card, rather than a detriment.  Barker was known for writing on his cards, in this case writing the ACC designation in the upper-left corner, along with the inscription "Rost59."  The "Rost59" is a reference to the collector from whom he acquired the card, along with the year of acquisition.  Barker, who collected as early as the 1920s, was born in 1911 and passed in 1982.  An outstanding and desirable card, made all the more interesting due to its hobby provenance.
