PLEASE NOTE: Our printed catalog erroneously refers to this lot as a ticket stub collection. These are, indeed, much more scarce, full, unused tickets.
Strong collection of four full tickets to see the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field between 1954 and 1956. Each ticket appears in EX condition, consigned from the collection of a dedicated, longtime ticket collector with outstanding patience and diligence when it comes to condition. The white tickets here do exhibit some toning, most notably even toning in the 1954 ticket, but also around the edges of the 1956 example. Tickets include the following: 1) April 18, 1954: The season's fourth game featured the crosstown New York Giants, ultimately a 6-3 Giants victory but a game that featured home runs from four Hall of Famers: Willie Mays and Monte Irvin for New York, Duke Snider and Gil Hodges for Brooklyn. 2) September 26, 1954: The season's final game sent the last place Pittsburgh Pirates into Brooklyn, the Dodgers' season finding them in second place, five games behind the Giants. The Dodgers would win the game, 1-0, Karl Spooner getting the shutout, Gil Hodges hitting his 42nd home run, both teams scratching out four hits against the opposition. 3) June 29, 1955: The Dodgers were in first place for almost the entire 1955 season, and by June 29 they were 12 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Cubs. On this particular day, however, the New York Giants would beat the Dodgers 6-1, with Willie Mays driving in all six runs for the Giants with his 18th and 19th home runs of the season. Young Sandy Koufax, just five days removed from his major league debut, pitched an inning in relief in what was his second career outing, giving up two hits and walking one. 4) April 27, 1956: The Dodgers would once again face Pittsburgh in this game, taking the game, 7-2 with home runs by Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella and Gil Hodges. Dale Long hit his fourth home run for Pittsburgh - later that season he would set a record by hitting home runs in eight consecutive games, a record he still shares today. An excellent grouping of tickets featuring some exciting and significant games, all played at Ebbets Field. Four tickets total.
