Why Larrupin' Lou is not on a face or an ace card in this charming 1927 playing card issue is mystifying. Issued on master sheets of 16, the cards had to be cut apart in order to assemble a full deck, at which point, assuming they survived that operation in good shape, they were invariably played with. That this example survived in such nice shape 95 years after issue is somewhat amazing then. The image is typical for the set, and the black ink remains bold. A stray blot of red ink shows in the upper left quadrant but is unobtrusive. Borders can be seen along all four edges and the reverse is clean. The Gehrig is one of two keys to the set, the other being Babe Ruth.
