Possibly their weirdest test set ever, Topps released a run of little plastic player busts (dubbed Plaks for some unknown reason), which came three to a pack on a sprue, kind of like model cars or planes . The idea was you popped the bust into a stand that had the player's name displayed, which was good because the player images were essentially unrecognizable, barely identifiable blobs. Production issues tangled up the release and it's hard to picture why kids would have wanted to collect these anyway, which means today they are not widely seen. #14 Richie Allen is the player "depicted" here and he's in fine shape (the Plaks are actually quite thick and sturdy). Some sprue remnants remain on the base of this difficult test issue.
