April 15 1997 marked the 50th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson's first major league game a Brooklyn 5-3 win over the Boston Braves at Ebbets Field in 1947. On the 50th Anniversary a ceremony was held at Shea Stadium prior to the Dodgers game that day against the New York Mets. Halfway through the game on that memorable day baseball commissioner Bud Selig alongside Rachel Robinson addressed the crowd announcing that Robinson's number - 42 - would be forever retired by Major League Baseball. Former President Bill Clinton also addressed the crowd stating "(Robinson) scored the go-ahead run that first day in the major leagues and we've been trying to catch up with him ever since." The greatness and importance of Jackie Robinson cannot be overstated. This particular day however Major League Baseball made a grand gesture an effort to somehow recognize the impact that Jackie Robinson had on America. Presented here is a collection of mementos from that day and that season. Included are: 1) A full ticket and Mets ticket envelope from the game. Both are in NMT condition. 2) Commemorative Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary program also in NMT condition. 3) Clipping from the following day's New York Times depicting Rachel Robinson alongside Bud Selig and Bill Clinton. 4) New York Mets' Official Scorecard from the game NMT condition. 5) Jackie Robinson Commemorative Collector's Edition Magazine NMT condition. Baseball's recognition of Jackie Robinson is one of the more momentous occasions in the modern history of the game. This collection is an outstanding group of items including a full-game ticket in NMT condition commemorating that special day.
