On May 7 1959 the Los Angeles Dodgers and their fans paid tribute to their great fallen catcher Roy Campanella. Just over a year earlier Campanella was driving home from the Harlem liquor store that he owned when his car hit an ice patch and hit a telephone pole breaking the catcher's neck and leaving him paralyzed from the shoulders down. To help honor Campanella and help pay his medical bills the team held an exhibition game at the Los Angeles Coliseum against the New York Yankees. More than 93 000 people attended the game marked by a special fan tribute where the coliseum lights were extinguished between the 5th and 6th innings and fans were asked to raise their lighters and matches in tribute to Campanella. Presented is a game program and ticket stub from that great night. The ticket stub is in outstanding condition encapsulated by SGC. The game program exhibits signs of wear including some folding and edge/corner wear a minor tear at the top edge along with some fragility and minor tearing on the interior pages but still presents extraordinarily well. The ticket stub is in outstanding condition authenticated and encapsulated by SGC with sharp corners and edges and all its original color. Upon close inspection a small tear at the perforation leads to a ver faint wrinkle and the opposite end exhibits markings that appear to be an indentation from a paper clip which clearly affixed the ticket stub to another document long ago. A wonderful pair of items of one of the most emotional moments in Dodgers history.
