Attractive and well-preserved game program from the October 4 1940 game between the UCLA Bruins and Santa Clara Broncos. The highlight of the program of course is Bruins halfback #28 Jackie Robinson. The Bruins were outscored in the game by a 9-6 margin as the Bruins' only 1940 win occurred November 23 vs. Washington. The game featured several future NFL players in future Chicago Cardinals center Jack Sommers Green Bay Packers lineman Del Lyman (both with UCLA) as well as 49'ers halfback Ken Casanega (with Santa Clara). In largely VG/EX condition the program exhibits some minor age-related toning and creasing with mild wear to the cover. A small pencil marking is present on the front cover and a minor pencil marking corrects an error in the team's lineup for the game. The overall display quality of the piece however is outstanding. A document of Jackie Robinson's outstanding and groundbreaking athletic career five years prior to his signing of a legendary minor league contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization.
