Exceptional cabinet photo of Cleveland pitcher John "Cinders" O'Brien, often confused with Brooklyn Bridegrooms outfielder William "Darby" O'Brien. O'Brien pitched for four seasons, joining the 1890 Cleveland Infants of the Players League before moving with several others to the 1891 Boston Reds, where he would go 18-13 before dying of pneumonia the following year, at just 24 years old. The cabinet, a proof from O'Brien's pose #331, originates from an unknown studio. Surface staining and foxing is evident, as are pinholes at the top and bottom of the card. The reverse exhibits some light soiling.
