1888 studio cabinet of outfielder Fred Mann, which would become card #291-1 in the massive Old Judge project. Taken by Scholten Studios of St. Louis, the studio that took the photos for the St. Louis Browns. A midseason acquisition by the 1887 Philadelphia Athletics, Mann was traded to the Browns during the offseason as part of a trade that brought shortstop Bill Gleason to the Athletics. Though Mann was expected to start in right field, he was released by the Browns before the season began, never playing a game with the team for which he appeared in four Old Judge poses. Some light staining and writing only marginally disrupt the Scholten Portraits advertisement on the reverse; aside from corner and edge wear and light soiling, the cabinet appears strong. FAIR condition.
