Outstanding real photo postcard dated July 3, 1909 depicting the inaugural game at Swayne Field in Toledo, OH, home of the Toledo Mud Hens until the team disbanded at the end of the 1955 season. The opening game between the Mud Hens and Columbus Senators went 18 innings, with Columbus winning the game, 12-11. Charlie Hickman (who enjoyed a 12-year major league career) is pictured from the left-field stands, heading into third base after hitting a home run before what appears to be a full house. The postcard has been addressed and a salutation written, though it bears no evidence of actual mailing. Eye appeal is strong, with a clean image and lightly-worn corners and edges.
