Impossibly rare minor league issue featuring members of the Class A Western League Des Moines Bruins, a Chicago Cubs affiliate. Many of the players went on to play in the major leagues, and the team was managed by Gas House Gang sparkplug Pepper Martin. The cards were issued with packs of hot dogs, and are considered extremely rare. The most difficult card is that of Bob Anderson, represented here with a stunning PSA 5 example. Complete sets are virtually unheard of, much less higher-grade examples such as this. A breakdown of the cards by grade is as follows: PSA NM-MT+ 8.5 (1 card): Buddy Thurlby; PSA NM-MT 8 (2 cards): Joe Stanka, Bob Thorpe; PSA NM+ 7.5 (1 card): Vern Morgan; PSA NM 7 (3 cards): Joe Pearson, Jim McDaniel, Bob McKee; PSA EX-MT+ 6.5 (2 cards): Ray Bellino, Dave Cunningham PSA EX-MT 6 (3 cards): Don Biebel, Eddie Haas, Paul Menking; PSA EX 5 (3 cards): Bob Anderson, Paul Hoffmeister, Don Watkins; PSA VG-EX 4 (5 cards): Bobby Cooke, Bert Flammini, Gene Dodge, Pepper Martin and Jim Stoddard. PSA VG 3 (1 card): John Pramesa. 12 of the cards in this set are the highest-graded examples assigned by PSA. A tremendous example of an extremely rare set. 21 cards total.
