Bert Randolph Sugar is better known as a boxing writer and the compiler of the Sports Collectors Bible but he also lent his name to a few Dover Press books that reproduced vintage cards (perforated for easy removal) and these tomes were available in bookstores and better souvenir stands for years, gleaming brightly in the spinner racks. You can imagine how many of these were mangled over the last four decades! Presented here are five Dover books:
Classic Baseball Cards, Hall of Fame Baseball Cards, Classic Boxing Cards and a pair of Great Baseball Players of the Past postcard books. Hall-of-Famers prevail on the covers of all five.
Rounding out the lot are the hardcover and paperback original editions of Steve Clark's wonderful and not-to-be-missed The Complete Book of Baseball Cards, which features an introduction by perhaps the most erudite author to grace a hobby book in Paul Gallico, best known as the author of The Poseidon Adventure.
The Dover books are in As New condition, while the hardcover edition of Clark's book is Fine and the paperback Very Good.
