Uncommon pair of 8” x 10” news service photographs featuring rare images of Rogers Hornsby sporting his 1952 St. Louis Browns uniform. All-time-great Hornsby was hired as Browns manager prior to the season but his stint didn’t last long. Over the course of 51 games with the club Hornsby guided his team to a record of 22-29 before being let go by Browns owner Bill Veeck on June 9.
Both photos picture Hornsby at Olive Memorial Stadiim in Burbank, CA, which served as the St. Louis Browns spring training home from 1949-52. These are high-quality photographs completely intact but with the portrait exhibiting barely noticeable creasing along the right border and the batting photo has a light crease at bottom right corner. Verso of both are bright white with handwritten identifications of Hornsby at the bottom along with Dorrill Photocolor Co. stamping.
