The saddest of all possible words - "Tinkers to Evers to Chance." Undoubtedly the most famous double play combination of the Dedball Era, perhaps in baseball history, the trio of Johnny Evers (left), Joe Tinker (middle) and Frank Chance (right) were immortalized in the 1910 poem "Baseball's Sad Lexicon" by Franklin Pierce Adams. Here, the Hall of Fame trio share a smoke while clutching a baseball sometime during the early 1920's. The presented photograph measures approx. 6.5" x 8.5" with three corners that have chipped away, along with several small tears scattered around the edges. Verso includes a paper tag identifying International Film Service as the issuer. There are three modern, white stickers affixed on verso and several modern notations appear in ballpoint. Clear tape has been applied in several areas to reinforce the aforementioned small tears. Photo is fresh to the hobby and originates from the archives of Photo File, Inc. where it has been stored for several decades until this offering. Guaranteed Type 1.
