Beautiful proof art that would become a familiar notebook cover featuring Cy Young.  This series of notebook covers consisted of an elegantly-designed border featuring a host of baseball equipment, surrounding a familiar portrait image of Cy Young, described as "One of the three most celebrated pitchers."  The art was clearly designed to give the appearance of being aa baseball card, and the Young "card" was one of five different covers that featured Young, along with Lou Criger, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson and Rube Waddell.  This cover was originally part of an uncut sheet of proofs that included three samples of each player, that was unfortunately cut into individual items.  Authenticated by SGC, the "AUTHENTIC" designation refers solely to the fact that the proof was cut from a sheet, and not due to any sort of alteration.
