The 1938 Goudey "Heads Up" issue is among the more scarce and misunderstood of the Goudey sets, consisting of two separate versions of the same 24 cards, each version featuring a colorized headshot of the player superimposed over a whimsical, caricatured illustration.  Scarce in comparison with the other mainstream Goudey issues; as of this writing PSA has graded just 6,139 cards from the set in total.  Signed examples are seen even less frequently, with just 69 examples assessed by PSA/DNA.  Of those, just four examples of the #250 card of Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio have been noted, with none likely more attractive than this.

This example is simply superb, carefully signed diagnonally in a clear area of the card by the Hall of Fame centerfielder.  The signature has been applied in dark blue fountain pen, DiMaggio's elegant penmanship and smooth application garnering a grade of MINT 9 by PSA/DNA.  For its part, the card itself is clean and well-centered, with EX/MT corners and light, even toning, clearly a higher-grade example of a card that is seldom seen in high grade.  The signature is a period example, rendering the card all the more remarkable.  Undoubtedly one of the finest signed vintage DiMaggio cards, a scarce and beautiful example from a difficult set.  Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with a second LOA from James Spence Authentication.
