Please note an error in the title for this lot in our printed catalog, which definitively dated this cabinet photo to 1897.

Likely dating to the 1890s, depicting what is very likely to be a local town or factory team.  Measuring just shy of 8 1/2" x 5" with its mount, the photo pictures fourteen players and a mascot, with numbers written on each subject in pencil to identify the players on the reverse.  The photo itself is heavily soiled with foxing and fading, the mount having been subject to significant corner and edge wear as well.  The reverse does exhibit some paper loss, as well as staining from clear tape.  The pencil writing on the reverse, though extensive, has faded significantly and is not legible in all areas.  The subjects pictured are identified as follows: 1. H. Johnston (Saloon Keeper), 2 patron, 3. John Kevin (my papa), 4) John Sears, 5. Guss Sears, 6. Bill Kivett (My Hubby), 7. Kid Hossbrouck, 8. John Thompson, 9. George Davis captain, 10. Dale Ledgett, 11 (illegible), 12. Kid Ellis, 13. John Thompson's kid, 14. Cap Ledgett, 15. Pink (?) Hopper.  An interesting team photo and outstanding research project, depicting a local Albany ballclub.
