From 1946-1949 the All-America Football Conference was an upstart professional football league fielding eight teams across the United States, rivaling the NFL. In 1949 three AAFC teams were integrated into the NFL while the rest of the league was either absorbed by NFL squads or their franchises simply folded. The Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers today all originated in some form as AAFC teams.
