Original-owner partial set of 1962 Topps, carefully cared-for by the young collector who today is a grown man with grandchildren.  As is the case with many of the earlier sets featured in this auction, the young man had established the practice of writing the player's uniform number on the back of the cards - and then suddenly, as if all at once he realized he was damaging the cards, he stopped.  The result is that virtually all of the cards in the first 100 have the uniform number written on the reverse - and almost none of the remaining cards have that same feature.

The resulting condition breakdown is as follows: 7% EX/MT with a few better, 19% EX, 25% VG/EX, 31% VG, 4% G, and 14% FAIR, most with writing on the reverse.  We selected six cards to be graded by SGC, as follows: #1 Maris SGC EX+ 5.5; #10 Clemente SGC FR 1.5, #18 Manager's Dream SGC NM 7, #45 B. Robinson SGC FR 1.5, #200 Mantle SGC VG/EX 4, #387 Brock SGC VG/EX+ 4.5.  The remaining key cards grade as follows:  #5 Koufax (FR - writing), #29 Stengel (VG), #40 Cepeda (FR - writing), #50 Musial (FR - writing), #70 Killebrew (FR - writing), #73 Fox (FR - writing), #100 Spahn (FR - writing), #150 Kaline (EX), #199 Perry (EX), #213 Ashburn (VG/EX), #218 Torre (EX), #243 Roberts (G), #288 B.
