Primarily issued in 1910, the Plow Boy Tobacco set features 49 known subjects issued by the Spaulding & Merrick company and distributed in exchange for coupons. The cards are among the most rare of all tobacco issues today, with fewer than 150 graded examples known. The cards all feature members of the Chicago Cubs or White Sox, and include beautiful large-format player photos, set against a white border. The white borders and backs result in a number of significant condition issues related to aging, toning, and surface soiling, so high-grade examples are virtually nonexistent. This example features the White Sox' Bruno Block, graded GOOD 2 by SGC due to overall surface soiling and a lower-left corner ding. The advertisement on the reverse is clean, though toned.
