Iconic 8x10 portrait photo of the Iron Horse, Lou Gehrig as posed by official Chicago White Sox and Cubs photographer George Burke. Burke implemented a method of hand-etching his large-format negatives to achieve the dream-like quality associated with many of his prints. Using this technique, Burke has softened Gehrig's facial features here, highlighting Gehrig's boyish enthusiasm for the game despite his tragic passing within a decade of this image being shot.
Towards the end of Gehrig's life, when he was too ill to write, his wife Eleanor handled autograph requests and the inscription and Gehrig signature on this photo is written in her hand. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
