High-grade example of one of the more underrated Hall of Fame rookie cards of the era, of Dave Winfield. Winfield, who played baseball and basketball at the University of Minnesota, was one of six players to be drafted by three professional sports (the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, Utah Stars of the ABA, and Minnesota Vikings - who drafted Winfield even though he never played college football). Winfield was selected in the 1973 draft and signed with the Padres, jumping right to the major leagues, where he would bat .277 in 141 at bats as a 21-year-old rookie. 22 years later, Winfield retired, with 3,110 lifetime hits, 465 home runs, 7 Gold Gloves, 7 Silver Sluggers, and 12 All-Star appearances. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001.
