Part of an extraordinary collection of 1950s Topps cards consigned to this auction, this Mantle was clearly the highlight. Well-centered, though slightly high on the canvas, the card exhibits light wear, particularly at the top edge, along with a clean, red lower border and a crisp image. The card was consigned by a non-collecting owner, and many of the cards were damaged by a well-intentioned friend who inadvertently stuffed the cards into nine-pocket pages that were too small for the oversized 1953 Topps cards. Thankfully, the Mantle (along with other cards in the collection) was stored in a semi-rigid top loader, where it remained undamaged, save for the small bit of wear along the top edge. We submitted the Mantle to PSA during the recent backlog, incurring the premium price to get this beauty into a holder where it can finally be protected! An exceptional card, rising rapidly in value.
