Exceptional original Type 1 photo, taken at the 1961 All-Star Game in San Francisco, the first game of an All-Star "doubleheader." Featuring the two great New York centerfielders, the photo measures approximately 8" x 9 3/4", with a crystal clear image of the superstars, both gazing off-camera. While Mantle would be held hitless in the game, Mays would go 2-for-5 with an RBI, doubling in Hank Aaron for the tying run in the bottom of the 10th, and scoring the game-winner on a Roberto Clemente single.
The photo appears very strong and crisp, with some creasing and wrinkling, most pronounced at the extreme edges, though the photo itself lies flat. The reverse reveals tape remnants at the edges and corners, likely from prior framing, some editorial notes written throughout. An outstanding photo of two all-time greats, authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA with accompanying LOA.
