Measuring 2.75" x 1.5", attractive celluloid match container, advertising the Mundus brand of beer, brewed by the West Side Brewery of Detroit. Featured on one side of the container is a composite image featuring 24 members of the Detroit Tigers, inset with banners celebrating the team's 1907 and 1908 pennants. Each individual oval portrait features a member of the team, most in street clothes but three in uniform, each subject's name printed underneath his image. Photos include Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford, Hugh Jennings, and club owner Frank Navin. One of the more desirable of all celluloid pieces from this era, this example does exhibit foxing and light staining to the celluloid areas, along with an overall patina on the metal edges. The bottom of the container does display a dent. FAIR condition overall, however, this remains a desirable piece with strong display value.
