Still observing Covid safety protocol in the early spring of 2021, we sat on the front porch of our office with a consignor who dropped in with a plastic bin of basketball cards that included a beautiful near-set of 1961 Fleer basketball cards. The cards were collected during his youth, pulled directly from packs, and nearly immediately put away for safekeeping. The PSA 6 Chamberlain featured elsewhere in this auction was a highlight, but this beautiful Russell was another, and we put it aside to submit to PSA despite the extended grading lead times of the pandemic. Lightly-touched corners and a very slight centering issue, certainly typical for the set, are responsible for keeping the card from a higher-grade holder. Still, a highly-desirable card, one of the most important basketball cards ever produced.
