The Harrington's cards of 1928 are among the more scarce of the 1928 ice cream-related issues; significant premiums are assigned to these cards over the more common Yuengling or York Caramel issues that utilize virtually identical images. One of four ice cream-related issues all released in 1928 (Yuengling, Tharp's, and Sweetman being the others), not much is known about the four issues, despite the fact that their player selection reads like a "who's who" of baseball, containing 33 Hall of Famers in the small, 60-card set. Given that the cards were primarily given to children along with ice cream, they are susceptible to a number of condition woes, including stains, fingerprints, and all manner of dirt and grime. The cards of Babe Ruth are the obvious keys to all four sets, and are extremely difficult to find in high grade. This example is tremendous; of 39 Harrington's Ruth cards graded by PSA, just one - a lone PSA 6 - has been graded higher, with this example the only one at the 5.5 plateau. The card is clean, with some light corner wear and some areas of age-related discoloration evident; the image of Ruth crisp and clear. The card reverse features the offer of a free gallon of ice cream upon redemption of a complete set, but not the added offer of a quart of ice cream in exchange for Babe Ruth that is featured on many of the Harrington's backs. A truly exceptional card, one of the highest-graded examples available, from a scarce late 1920s ice cream issue.
