Remarkable and enormous advertising poster framed to a finished size of 25" x 48" featuring William Bendix in character as Babe Ruth from the 1948 film The Babe Ruth Story. A fascinating cross-promotion of the tobacco brand the film and the New York Yankees the brilliant colorful poster features the positioning statement "Always Buy Chesterfield " in red blue and gold typography some marketing copy advertising the film at the top. There are a number of different-sized Chesterfield advertising displays featuring Bendix; this is the largest and seemingly most difficult to find. From the collection of Ted Patterson this piece has undergone some professional restoration including some inpainting repaired tears and what appears to be some reinforcement to the reverse (we cannot examine the reverse due to the frame but ultraviolet light reveals a flourescent strip that appears to cross the back of the poster). Inpainting is visible primarily within the red area or along the white outer border of the piece; repaired tears are primarily visible at the top and center left. While the inpainting and restoration is not what we would call extensive it is certainly evident perhaps visible on 10% of the piece. It should be noted that the shipping charges for this will be elevated not necessarily due to weight but due to size.
