Exceptional trolley car sign featuring Hall of Famer Johnny Mize identified in the image as a Wheaties eater for more than 10 years. Depicted with the New York Giants where Mize playedi n 1942 and then 1946-49 Mize is one of several New York Giants Yankees and Dodgers that were featured on display signs for Wheaties. This piece is matted and framed to a finished size of 24" x 14" the matte configured in an odd way that obscures all four corners leading us to believe there is likely some wear being obscured by the matte. It should be noted that there are two other Wheaties signs in this auction one with significant inpainting at the edges and corners the other with strips of tape at each corner - deductive reasoning leads us to warn potential bidders of the distinct possibility of unpleasant discoveries under the matte. Indeed some light inpainting can be seen on the piece along the edges of the matte indicating some restoration should be expected. Regardless this is a difficult and very attractive advertising piece.
