The 1955 baseball season is one of the most memorable with its memorabilia among the most widely-collected of every postwar baseball season. A monster 51 home run 127 RBI season from Willie Mays 20-win seasons from both Don Newcombe and Robin Roberts and a tight American League race between the Yankees and Indians that went right down to the wire were all overshadowed by one of the most dramatic World Series in history. The 1955 World Series sealed by Sandy Amoros' game-saving catch in Game 7 remains legendary among New Yorkers and vintage collectors. The 1955 Topps baseball set is among the most desirable and valuable of all the Topps issues. Presented here is an outstanding midgrade Topps baseball set from that year. For all the reasons above as well as for containing the rookie cards of Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente Sandy Koufax and Harmon Killebrew the 1955 Topps issue remains one of the company's most popular. This example is a very attractive midgrade set assembled card-by-card by a dedicated Southern California collector who acquired many of the cards the old-fashioned way shopping in his local card store. Clean and presentable even the lower grade examples boast strong eye appeal. A complete condition breakdown is as follows: 7% EX/MT; 31% EX; 41% VG/EX; 17% VG; 3% G with a few better and a few lesser. A condition breakdown of the key cards including several that have been graded by PSA is as follows: #2 Williams (PSA NM 7) #4 Kaline (VG) #19 Herman (VG/EX) #24 Newhouser (EX) #31 Spahn (EX); #28 Banks (VG/EX); #47 Aaron (PSA EX-MT 6) #50 Robinson (PSA VG-EX 4); #100 Irvin (VG) #123 Koufax (PSA VG-EX 4) #124 Killebrew (G) #155 Mathews (F) #164 Clemente (PSA GOOD+ 2.5) #189 Rizzuto (VG/EX) #198 Berra (VG/EX) #194 Mays (PSA VG-EX+ 4.5). An extremely attractive set with clean consistently attractive cards that boast strong eye appeal. 206 cards total.
