Tremendous four-page supplement issued by Harper's Weekly on May 3 1890 titled Opening of the Base-Ball Season of 1890 - The Leading Players and Their Positions. Written by O.P. Caylor the spread previews the upcoming season and provides gorgeous woodcut images of the top players of the era including an astonishing assortment of 13 Hall of Famers. Virtually every widely-collected name in 19th Century baseball is included in this piece. A complete rundown of the players pictured include Cap Anson (HOF) Dan Brouthers (HOF) Thomas Burns John Clarkson (HOF) Charles Comiskey (HOF) Roger Connor (HOF) Cannonball Crane Jeremiah Denny Buck Ewing (HOF) D.L. Foutz John Glasscock Bill Hallman Ned Hanlon (HOF) Tim Keefe (HOF) King Kelly (HOF) M. Kilroy Arlie Latham Bid McPhee (HOF) Joseph Mulvey W. D. O'Brien David Orr John Reilly Mike Tiernan Sam Thompson John Ward (HOF) Mickey Welsh (HOF) Gus Weyhing and Charles Zimmer. Several of the images are illustrations of images we have seen many times before on Old Judge baseball cards. The four pages are printed on two sheets of paper which have been separated from one another. Printing is on the front and back of each. Appearance is extremely strong with age-related toning at the edges and some tiny tears more pronounced on the left (spine) side of each sheet. A simply tremendous display of 19th Century star power representing 13 Hall of Famers including several that are extremely difficult to find represented on cards or memorabilia.
