Please note: we received an email from an astute collector on November 14 with more information about this bat that enables us to accurately date it to 1933 not 1917 as previously stated. Honus Wagner was hired back as a Pirates coach for the 1933 season with an elaborate celebration for him on June 9 of that season that included a parade with marching bands as well as an old-timer's game. Wagner played in the game and was given a $1 500 gift from fans. Interesting 16" long Louisville Slugger mini-bat likely issued as a promotional item on that date. The bat barrel features "WAGNER DAY" and "JUNE 9" burned into the barrel corresponding to that date. The bat appears in excellent condition with little wear with the exception of some pencil marking on the back barrel (the word "No" written and subsequently scratched out). On the date we received this information there were three bids placed on the bat. We are happy to extend to those bidders the opportunity to cancel their bids if they decide they are no longer interested in the bat based on this new information (though we feel the new information makes the bat more desirable since it can now be definitively dated). Should those bidders contact us by 11:59 PM on November 15 we will happily retract the bids.
