Tremendous oversized photo housed in a vintage frame measuring 21" x 16". The team is identified as the Meriden Police Baseball Team winners of the 1909 State Championship. That the players have been identified on the photo makes it easy for us to cross-reference the team based on newspaper accounts to assure that the team is a police team based in Meriden CT. The team of police officers won the league championship on August 18 by defeating the Waterbury team behind the pitching of Danny Joyce (back row second from left over the manager's left shoulder). The photo pictures the team members in fuyll uniform surrounding their manager and the exquisite league trophy. Some equipment is carefully positioned in the foreground. The photo is extremely strong though not without wear - a large tear is evident underneath the glass in the lower-left corner and some additional wrinkling and surface abrasions can be found throughout. Still a tremendous piece. Oh and that giant human in the back row? That's right fielder John Bonin. Based on his size our guess would be that Meriden Connecticut was a very safe community while Bonin was on patrol.
