I have one to sell!
Outstanding early baseball signed by the members of the 1940 Daytona Beach Islanders. The Class D team in the Florida State League was managed by Dickey Kerr who took a young phenom named Stan Musial under his wing. The young pitcher (Musial) would finish the season 18-5 with an ERA of 2.62 and because the team roster was so small when Musial wasn't pitching he played the field batting .311 with 70 RBI. Toward the end of the season a shoulder injury would end his pitching career and by 1941 he was a full-time outfielder. This attractive team-signed baseball documents that season one of the earliest Stan Musial signatures we have seen at auction. Musial and Kerr both signed the baseball as did pitcher Lou Klein who would have a brief major league career as well. The ball exhibits wear and toning the signatures some fading with time however the historical importance of the ball cannot be denied. LOA from the estate of Stan Musial.
