Outstanding card featuring Hall of Famer Billy Herman from the 1952 Topps set. As is the case with the other 1952 Topps high numbers featured in this auction the card comes from a fresh collection of virtually untouched cards that had been locked away in a box in the possessions of their original owner likely since shortly after their original issue. There were 78 cards in total and we submitted all to PSA for grading. While PSA assigned numerical grades to the majority of the cards more than 20 were evaluated as having "evidence of trimming." The logic of this escaped us as it was very unlikely that the cards had been trimmed so we submitted the rejected examples to SGC for a second opinion fully disclosing the situation when we submitted the cards. It was SGC's opinion that the cards had not been trimmed but some suffered from a size variance that made it impossible for them to assign a numerical grade. This was one of those cards graded AUTHENTIC by SGC for not meeting the minimum size required for the issue. Still the card is well-centered with outstanding image quality and a clean bright surface. Simply a tremendous card an outstanding example of "buy the card not the holder."
