Beautiful 1977-79 Louisville Slugger issued to Baltimore Orioles leadoff hitter and speedster Al Bumbry but used by catcher Rick Dempsey. Bumbry was a speed demon stealing 254 bases in his career despite missing most of 1978 with a broken leg and ankle suffered while getting back to second base. The 34" bat weighs in at just over 33 ounces and has the number 24 written on the knob an indication that the bat despite having been issued to Bumbry was actually used by Bumbry's teammate catcher Rick Dempsey. Dempsey was also a star in his era who played an astonishing 24 years as a catcher. The bat does exhibit a handle crack as well as other signs of use. Initially offered in our Spring 2020 auction and offered again here due to a non-paying bidder. Initially from the collection of former Orioles broadcaster Ted Patterson with an LOA from John Taube at PSA/DNA.
