Pair of advertising posters promoting Walk-Over shoes and a promotion run by the company during the Red Sox-Tigers game on August 5 1911. During that promotion a certificate for two pairs of Walk-Over shoes was given for each safe hit made in the game. The promotion was quite a motivator for the ballclubs as despite the relatively low-scoring affair (Boston won 4-3) the Red Sox pounded out nine hits and the Tigers 12 each team committing three errors to boot. Hopefully the 42 pairs of shoes given out by the company were worth it. The two framed posters depict "Mr. Keith " likely an executive with the Walk-Over Shoes manufacturer presenting the gift certificates. Included are the following: 1) Tris Speaker: 10 1/4" x 15" framed poster depicts Mr. Keith presenting Speaker with four certificates for Walk-Over shoes in front of a grandstand of fans in dapper straw hats. Poster appears to be in excellent condition with some wear and what appears to be a light ink mark at the left edge. The framing prevents us from examining the edges and reverse of course. 2) Detroit Tigers: Framed poster measuring approximately 11 3/4" x 15" and pictures Mr. Keith presenting Ty Cobb with his certificates in front of the Detroit Tigers dugout a variety of Tigers players looking on. Poster appears in EX condition though the frame prevents us from examining the edges or reverse. Two exceptional advertising posters featuring two of the game's greats commemorating a curious but interesting clothing promotion.
