Lobby card from the 1938 20th Century Fox film Rawhide. In the film Lou Gehrig plays himself as a vacationing ballplayer visiting his sister in the fictional town of Rawhide Montana. On his trip he decides to give up baseball and become a cattle rancher teaming up with a local lawyer to fight some criminals who preyed on the local ranchers. By 1938 Gehrig had begun looking at ways of leveraging his success and his celebrity and the film industry was a logical progression. Thankfully he stuck with baseball for the remainder of his brief life. Professionally matted and framed to approximately 17" x 14" the lobby card exhibits some wear in the form of light staining along the bottom left what appears to be some wear at the edges and three marks from clear tape along the bottom edge and corners. The framing prevents us from reviewing the edges and reverse more closely though we would advise potential bidders to expect some wear. The matte is lightly toned as well the piece hung in the card room of collector Ted Patterson for many years.
