1930 Sportsman's Park official program for the 1930 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Athletics. The program has been scored in pencil and appears to be from Game 5 a 2-0 pitcher's duel between Hall of Famers Lefty Grove and Burleigh Grimes that was won by the Athletics who would go on to take the Series in the sixth and final game. The pitcher's duel lasted until the 9th inning when Jimmie Foxx slugged a two-run home run to give the Athletics the lead. In the bottom of the inning Jim Bottomley grounded out to end the game with Sparky Adams on base. The program exhibits wear mostly in the form of toning and some abrasions at the corners and edges. The interior scorecard page has begun to detach from the staple binding and the toning on the reverse is pronounced and heavy more so than on the front cover. As is the case with so many programs the long-ago flattened vertical fold is visible and has resulted in some paper loss down the center of the front cover. Still an attractive program from the Live Ball era.
