For most American sports fans there are few moments in sports history more dramatic important or memorable than the 1980 Olympic hockey "Miracle on Ice." In fact let's take one minute and watch it. Did you get goose bumps?The 1980 US Olympic ice hockey team made history winning the Gold Medal but also defeating a heavily-favored Soviet Union team. The Soviets who had won the hockey Gold in six of the seven previous years had beaten the Americans 10-3 in an exhibition just days before the opening ceremony on February 13 in Lake Placid NY. The Americans rallied however winning six games with one tie against the Bronze-winning Swedish team. While the penultimate US-Soviet game is the one most fans remember the final game against Finland clinched the gold for the States a 4-2 victory for the Americans.
