The Ted Patterson collection includes an extraordinary number of tickets and ticket stubs - a big pile mostly college football but also some auto racing thoroughbred racing pro football baseball and more. When leafing through a group of modern football tickets one day we encountered this - an outstanding ticket stub from the New York Mets' inaugural season of 1962 signed by Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel. What a surprise! The game was played on Sunday June 3 at the Polo Grounds a 6-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants. Willie Mays hit his 19th home run in the 6th inning off Bob Miller who pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up 6 runs while Juan Marichal pitched a complete game for the Giants. With the loss the Mets dropped to an abysmal 12-34 record. The stub boasts strong visual appeal with some paper loss on the reverse an irregular tear at the perforation and a small tear near the top edge visible but not interrupting the eye appeal of the stub. Stengel signed boldly in blue ballpoint ink across the bottom half of the stub. An outstanding collectible a ticket stub from the New York Mets' inaugural season signed by one of the game's great characters who kept the 1962 season enjoyable for fans - Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel.
