Seldom-seen framed cover of the July 19 1902 issue of Sporting Life which featured a composite image of the Charlotte Hornets team of the North Carolina League. It is noted in the photo caption that the team won 25 consecutive games between May 10 and June 11 establishing a new record. Most noteworthy today however is the image of the player in the upper-left corner: Archibald Wright "Moonlight" Graham who has become one of the best-known characters in historical baseball fiction thanks to the film "Field of Dreams " perhaps the most popular baseball movie of all-time. The publication has been handsomely framed with a stunning rich purple fabric matte and a dark wood frame one of the most attractive framing jobs on a piece like this that we can recall. As a result of the film Moonlight Graham has become a widely-collected figure in the game - not long ago we sold a Graham-signed postcard for $6 000 - and since he was such an obscure player his memorabilia is very rare. This example is one we have never seen; an attractive composite photo on the cover of one of the sport's popular early publications.
