THe 1927 Pirates were a strong team finishing in first place in the National League with a 92-62 record. The team featured a number of Hall of Famers including Pie Traynor Lloyd Waner Paul Waner Kiki Cuyler and Joe Cronin (just 20 years old). Paul Waner batted a whopping .380 driving in 131 runs to lead the league and win the MVP. Ray Kremer led the league in ERA and posted a 19-8 record. The team would advance to the World Series where they would be swept by the Yankees' Murderer's Row team. Presented here is a "Special Pass" issued to Mrs. Clyde Barnhart wife of the team's only non-Waner in the outfield. Barnart batted .319 that season and scored 65 runs his next-to-last season in the majors all spent with the Pirates. He is probably best known as being the only major leaguer to collect hits in three separate games on the same day hitting in all three games of a tripleheader in 1920. The most important component of the pass however is the fact that it was signed by team owner Barney Dreyfuss. Freyfuss' signature is extremely difficult a Hall of Famer enshrined in 2008 by the Veterans Committee. Letters signed by Dreyfus sell for thousands season passes bearing his signature often do as well. An exceptional quality signature despite visible wear and wrinkling throughout a scarce signature on a pass given to the wife of a Pirates Player. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
