Prewar baseball card collectors will immediately recognize the T206 card of Bill O'Hara described as being with St. Louis (as opposed to New York) as not only one of the most scarce and popular cards in the issue but also as one of the most celebrated variations in the hobby. O'Hara was signed by St. Louis in November of 1909 but his team name was corrected only in the print run for the Polar Bear brand making the O'Hara (and Ray Demmitt also featured in this auction) particularly rare. The cad is tough enough that even the lowest-grade examples routinely surpass $1 000 at auction. This particular example has been graded PR-FR 1 by PSA due to overall wear primarily creasing that is most notable along the bottom half of the card but is also visible elsewhere. The typical tobacco staining found with Polar Bear cards is also visible on the front and the corner wear is consistent with the grade. Despite all that the rarity of this card is well-documented one of the more highly-coveted cards in the entire issue.
