Spectacular high-grade example of the rookie card of Cardinals and Phillies great Steve Carlton (HOF). Graded NM-NT+ 8.5 by PSA the most striking element of the card is its corners along with the rich black background devoid of the kind of print defects that were so common to the issue. The 8.5 grade attained by the card is likely due to the wonderful eye appeal created by those two things; top to bottom centering likely holds the card back from the MINT level despite not being significant enough to detract materially from the eye appeal. A wonderful example what we reluctantly call "pack fresh" because of our distaste for the term but a truly wonderful rookie card of one of the greatest pitchers of his generation.
