Distributed in West Coast states in 1911 the T217 Mono Cigarettes issue contained PCL baseball players as well as actresses. Among the most rare of all the tobacco issues the 23 baseball players (25 cards total due to two players being featured in two poses each) feature none of the bigger-name players in the PCL but command a large premium nonetheless due simply to scarcity. Indeed SGC has graded just 140 cards from the issue and PSA 51 more and of those 191 cards just 20 have graded EX or better none higher than EX/MT. Presented here is one of those high-grade examples featuring career minor leaguer Kitty Knight. Depicted here with the Oakland Oaks with which he spent part of the 1911 season (splitting between Oakland and Sacramento) the image quality is fantastic crystal clear with minimal surface wear. Corner wear is visible largely responsible for the grade. An outstanding example of a gorgeous photographic card from a very tough tobacco issue one of the more difficult of the PCL sets.
