The square Chesterfield cardboard advertising displays of the 1940s and 1950s are well-known and highly sought-after by collectors of baseball memorabilia and tobacciana. Far less seldom seen is this slightly older trolley car-style display featuring Frank McCormick of the Cincinnati Reds. "Buck" McCormick was the 1940 MVP winner batting .309 with 127 RBI helping lead the Reds to a World Series title. McCormick struck out just 189 times in his entire career spanning 13 seasons and 6 200 plate appearances a nine-time All-Star who led the National League in hits three seasons in a row between 1938 and 1940. The sign is printed on thick cardboard measuring 21" x 11". Areas of wear are apparent at the edges and corners with some light tears and small bits of paper loss on the front and reverse. Some light restoration has occurred in the form of inpainting and some repaired tears and pinholes the restored areas covering perhaps 3-5% of the surface area of the piece. A few small cardboard patches are evident on the reverse in areas where the pinholes were repaired. Otherwise a very strong and colorful piece.
