Grouping of four woodcuts from the New York Clipper circa 1879-1880. While woodcuts have varying degrees of popularity and demand in the hobby the Clipper woodcuts are interesting in that they each feature individual players encircled in a border with biographical information printed underneath the image quite similar in fact to baseball cards. Handcut from the publication the woodcuts vary in size based on the amount of detail printed under the image and how they were cut but in general measure 4 5/8" in width and roughly 8" in length. Included in this group includes John Burdock Levi Meyerly Jim O'Rourke (HOF) and Ned Williamso. Each presents well carefully cut underneath and around their borders the Meyerle example exhibiting some very slight staining within the body copy.
