Wonderful postcard that at first glance appears to be a simple 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" postcard featuring a photo of the Red Sox grounds as well as management personnel. Behind the baseball-shaped cover however is an accordion-style fold-out 22" in length by 1 3/4" in height containing portait photos of all the team members in uniform plus the team mascot and trainer. Officially the first season of the "Red Sox " the team members each have the design of a sock sewn onto their breast the word "Boston" written inside. Photos include Deacon McGuire (manager) Cy Young (HOF) Lou Criger Jake Stahl Harry Lord Heinie Wagner Amby McConnell Denny Sullivan Jack Thoney Doc Gessler Eddie Cicotte M. McCarthy (mascot) Frank Arellanes Fred Burchell Gavvy Cravath Cy Morgan Frank LaPorte C. Green (trainer) Pat DOnahuue and Bill Carrigan. The fold-out is in excellent shape though since Cy Young is the first photo in the extension age and use has gotten the best of him placing a small tear in the photo as well as an irregular crease. Some mild creasing and toning is also evident and it appears that at some point there was probably some sort of fastener as part of the card to the right of the "Red Sox" on the baseball-shaped cover which has long since detached. Some creasing is evident elsewhere on the card which has been postally used (date unknown). An exceptional piece quite seldom seen.
